Biography

Dr Niels Bosma is assistant professor in the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department at Utrecht University School of Economics. He is also research fellow with Vlerick Business School and the Global Entrepreneurship Research Association. His research interests evolve around individuals’ entrepreneurial and innovative behavior in regional and social contexts, with a particular interest in social entrepreneurship. He is one of the initiators of the Utrecht University Social Entrepreneurship Initiative and an academic member of GECES, an expert group advising the European Commission on its Social Business Initiative.

Niels has published in various academic journals and is an expert on international differences in entrepreneurship. Since 2001 he has actively contributed to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), has acted as the GEM research director and co-authored several GEM Global Reports. Before moving to Utrecht University he held positions at EIM Business and Research Policy (now part of the Panteia group), Erasmus University Rotterdam and London Business School.
