We are pleased to announce the successful applicants for the 2025 call for proposals under the Department for Business and Trade’s (DBT) funding initiative for secondary analyses of the Longitudinal Small Business Survey (LSBS). After a competitive selection process, the following research projects have been awarded funding:

  • Jorge Velez Ospina (University of Sussex and National Centre for Universities and Business, NCUB): Focusing on the relationship between productivity, place, and business dynamics such as growth and finance.
  • José Manuel Liñares-Zegarra (University of Essex): Investigating the long-term decline in key indicators, including growth ambition and demand for finance and business support.
  • Ketan Goswami (University of Warwick): Analyzing the differences in characteristics, capabilities, and performance between high-growth and low/no-growth firms.
  • Lorna Treanor (University of Nottingham): Examining the challenges and characteristics of exporting versus non-exporting businesses, with a focus on size, minority ethnic leadership, and regional disparities.
  • Sylvia Gottschalk (Middlesex University): Exploring gender differences in business leadership and international trade participation, specifically between women-led and men-led businesses.
