Community Innovation Survey (CIS) provides the main source of information on business innovation in the UK covering a range of variables to include innovation activity; goods, services and process innovation; co-operation on innovation and barriers to innovation.

The Survey has been conducted seven times in the UK, with each Survey conducted every two years since 2007 (previously every four years). The data that is currently available spans the period 1994-2010, with the most recent datasets covering approximately 7,000 firms. The CIS datasets are based on a random sample of firms with at least 10 employees and can be linked to the BSD via the IDBR enterprise reference number.
