The fate after 15 years of a quarter of a million UK firms born in 1998 is the latest paper from the ERC helping develop hypotheses for the current BEIS-HMRC-ONS project designed to identify businesses which are high growth and those with the potential for high growth through the development of a combination of quantitative and qualitative lead indicators for high growth using appropriate machine learning techniques. The overall objective of the project is to ensure an improved and better targeted Government business support receives significantly higher take-up, successfully stimulates higher growth rates in these firms, which in turn create positive economic spill-overs for the wider economy.
